The origins of Modern stores can be traced back to December 15th, 1951. Established by Mr. Janardhan Rao as a small retail store in Ooty, Tami Nadu, it grew up to become a store for unique retail products, exclusive food items, and condiments. The store became popular within a short time. In due course, a few cooks who worked for the erstwhile British were engaged in making a variety of homemade chocolates and this was sold fresh to the local population and visiting tourists.
